He/Him - Mid-30's
Engineer by trade, I dabble in 3D modelling, anime, and VRChat.
Not much motivation for creativity lately, but I have been taking a little time to quietly chip away at the dark magic that is normal mapping and the multires modifier. As far as I can tell, the difference is almost unnoticable to the casual observer, but it does look nice otherwise.

Little bonus: The reference I made for the pose. The formless block of marble from which sprung true art.
Yeah, I'm something of an artist myself.

Absolutely ecstatic about getting my first piece of commissioned art!
My DnD character of five years. It's really cool to see art of him at last.

Kobold Model by vonvivianov.bsky.social

Esteemed public, after about 6 months of constant internal debate and confusion, I have finally learned how to press the limbs.spline_tentacle button.
We did it! No appendage will remain unwiggly! I am unstoppable!

Look here! No twist bone. Twist bone. It's like magic!
To be honest, the difference between having a twist bone and not seems barely noticeable for VRChat avatars, especially if you don't have elbow trackers, but for posing and renders it's practically a necessity. And I love making it work.

Couldn't resist picking up @vonvivianov.bsky.social 's Kobold model. (On massive sale now! Check them out!)
Fiddling with the colors and the posing rig for fun, but the texture work is really nice!

Plant.
I'm a bit worried that the holographic effect is too busy, but there's no way to be sure until the rest of the scene is set up.

Fiddling with cloth physics and spooky lighting.

Ads. The scourge of modern society. But for worldbuilding they can be an effective and fun tool for dropping little details about the state and cultural values of your setting. And that's why I've spent nearly a week struggling to come up with the most bland tidbits for my showcase in unoriginality.

Right. Texturing planters is officially Boring and Unsatisfying. Putting in random lights is now Cool and Hip.
Given that most everything is still default white, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to up the brightness on everything before it's done.

I'd like to get better at posing, and I think the main component is just spending more time on it. But I'm also absolutely terrible at thinking of creative poses. So I've defaulted to some basic yoga poses for starters. Cat/Cow and a little running to test the model.

I really want to be able to use Blender's own shading system for texturing so I don't have to export to substance painter and bring it back in, but Blender's system always seems to take quite a bit of effort just to turn out subpar while still overtaxing my computer in the process.

Pff, yeah. I got tables 'n chairs.
Making furniture has me looking around the world I live in thinking things like "How did they decide how high this desk is?" and "Where did my legs go?"
October 11, 2025 at 3:11 PM
Got too curious about how the textures work so I did a few tests. Needs some fine tuning, but maybe it could actually look like a holographic tree!
October 10, 2025 at 9:18 PM
Yeah. Yeah that's what a tree looks like. Probably. I've decided I'm going to have the textures do the heavy lifting with this one. Good luck, future me.
Now that the world is getting populated I think I'm going to have to start making the assets individually and import them to keep things simple.
October 7, 2025 at 10:17 PM
Does anyone remember how trees work? They're like some kind of multi-story 3D starfish, right?
October 5, 2025 at 2:11 PM
Took a little distraction to remember the dawn of spooky month. Just a little texture editing while fixing up some other stuff, but I think it turned out Good Enough. The tiny glasses take away from the spookiness a little bit, but that's just the price of style, I suppose.

Take WIPs, take WIPs, take WIPs. I moved on to making periphery environmental stuff.
Catwalks! They really give it a closed in feeling despite still being outside. Perfect. Add some banners and miscellaneous windows and, despite my best efforts, it's starting to really feel like a place.
October 1, 2025 at 1:00 AM
With the addition of the second, more powerful, food court all major features along the concourse are done.
Now begins the process of adding peripheries and details until I explode. Then texture work.

God, I hate this unflavored protein powder! It tastes awful no matter what I add. It doesn't mix well with anything! I give up! It's fine! I'll just drink it all now! I'll drink it all and it'll be gone and then I'll just go get that chocolate flavored gar- [Incomprehensible gargling.]

While looking for new ideas in my world, I've also been quietly chipping away at a modest update for my avatar.
The poor old boy needed it. I swapped the hands, slimmed the arms, shortened the torso, redid the textures in substance painter, and fiddled with the weight painting a bit.
September 18, 2025 at 5:35 PM
Added some tables and fixed up the planters a bit. The scene is starting to come together, but it's not time for furnishings yet. There are still two big areas missing proper storefronts before I can start working on details and periphery.
