Exactly, and the effects are two fold,
1 It massively increases the barrier to entry for technological knowledge similar to that which could be achieved before.
2 It destroys any prospect of repeatability by combining tech until instead of swapping a capacitor you have to swap the entire possessor.

Yeah actually, mostly, the other issue and cause for the streamlining is profit. Things are hyper standardized and people aren’t taught how they work or given a reason to learn it on their own. Because it’s just vastly cheaper to standardize than to keep things in the more custom way it used to be.

Giving kids time to experiment, give them a task on a device and let them just play around with it until they figure it out on their own. The biggest issue is a combination of technological streamlining and a lack of education and incentives around understanding technology.

(3/3) Beyond that the previous generation still have some of the same problems though at least perceptibly to a lesser degree. This generally caused by the actual spaces that people decide to use, where the barrier of entry to specific spaces causes an overall over/under rep and survivorship biases.

(2/3) Two things about that thought, firstly the decrease in technological literacy is not really the fault of the younger generations and is instead caused by an infrastructural inability to properly educate and interest kids in regards to their tech and its function.

(1/3) Younger gen here, and yeah it is actually pretty true, to a degree. For a generation so deeply invested in technology the actual technological literacy is shockingly bad, the oversimplification of tech has lead to people never needing to learn how it is that their tech works.
