When I was in 6th grade we were told one of the 5th grade teachers had died. Girls cried, boys looked sad; I looked away because she was a witch and the world was better without her. I would dance on her grave even today.

We love mourning doves; they have sweet faces and their cooing is fun. We had 43 in our yard and on our feeder one afternoon.

I’ve visited, but it wasn’t until the past year that I discovered my 3rd Great Grandfather died there, possibly in the Sunken Road. (He and one if his sons, who was killed earlier in the war, served the wrong side, unfortunately.)

In 6th grade, MANY years ago, a clsssmate was giving an oral report on “mara-joo-anah”, as she pronounced it. I was puzzled at this and said I thought it was pronounced “mara-wa-nah”, to which the teacher replied, “either way is acceptable”. Oh.
