They were called Duck and Cover drills. In summer, we left when the sun came up & came home when it left - usually hanging in parks and lakes that also may not exist next year courtesy of those same subpar, mediocre men who couldn’t survive a night camping, much less duck & covers or use my guns.

All this while learning to avoid kidnappers in windowless vans, being taught to stop, drop & roll if you caught on fire, and the most fun - how to hide under your desk in case of a nuclear attack because of the Cold War that involved RUSSIA - you know - Cheeto’s buddy. Google it.

Everyone forgets that we basically raised ourselves. We woke up, made our cereal, walked to school by ourselves (schools which may not exist next year) then walked home, let ourselves in and fended for ourselves until our parents came home.

We have our responsibly owned guns, generators, gardens, chickens for those eggs everyone was so worried about (How are those prices?) & non-perishable food.
