Logic and math means nothing when the raw data has been manipulated. If a paper’s results are illogical and unreliable, one should ask themselves: how did this pass the review stage? If something doesn’t add up, then people should be able to discuss it and raise concerns.

And how exactly? I was just raising a concern over your defensive behavior? I didn’t even accuse you of academic dishonesty. I said MIGHT and IF. Please improve your reading comprehension. I didn’t tell people “hey look Alice here commits fraud! 🤪”

Images are there to support the claims researchers make. Of course they would want their results to match their hypothesis! But, unfortunately, some are willing to go the extra mile to manipulate the results so that it matches with whatever notion they have.

The way you use negatively charged words to describe ‘raising concern about potential fraud’ makes me inclined to believe that you might be involved in some form of academic dishonesty… if that is true, I suggest you come clean to avoid further jeopardizing your career.

I don’t think you understand how things work here. Nobody is forming a mob to lynch researchers. Raising concerns about potential fraud is not unethical. You know what is unethical? Not having integrity. Not speaking up when you find clues of academic dishonesty.

Firstly, this is not my team. Secondly, I never said their goal is to end people’s careers. The people whose careers end because of data manipulation, fabrication, plagiarism, etc. is just the consequence of their own doing. Why would any researcher/inst want to associate themselves with fraudsters?

All sensory receptors do that, no? I’m more troubled by you calling spice a flavor

Isn’t ‘spicy’ basically irritation/inflammation? My hands can also taste ‘spicy’ if I handle tons of chili peppers without gloves

And/or someone someday will report the authors to their head of department and an investigation will happen. If it is true that data manipulation/fabrication did occur, it would probably end the authors’ career.

You seem a bit antsy judging from your replies though… 2/2

Just because a paper is highly cited, it doesn’t mean it is correct or truthful. This paper (www.nature.com/articles/nat...) was cited 4504 times and yet it was retracted.

There is no penalty for non-compliance. It’s just that someone someday will probably report it to the editors. 1/2
