Head in the Clouds Amherst (Massachusetts) is a community of people locally - and, increasingly, around the world - who are fascinated by life, weather, clouds, nature, and all the places that take our breath away.
Dreaming of life in Massachusetts? Picture this: rolling hills, turning leaves, a sky you can fall into. You could live here – or just hang it on your wall. Our 2026 Head in the Clouds Amherst calendar is out now.

Shorter days, cooler nights, and skies made for stargazing. Here’s to balance, beauty, and a sweet New Year for those celebrating Rosh Hashanah. (Photo by Simi Rabinowitz)

Finally caught it: The Dickinson Homestead under cirrus clouds worthy of Emily's “Hope is the thing with feathers.” A sky I’ve been chasing all year.

The sky showed off today—cirrus fibratus, uncinus (mares’ tails), intortus, even unruly contrails masquerading as clouds.
Just wisps doing what they do best.

Cloud Appreciation Society member, Macduff Everton, spotted Cumulus and Cirrocumulus clouds above a cast of Rodin’s sculpture The Thinker in Tokyo. "People have wondered what he’s thinking about," said Macduff. "It’s obvious, he has his head in the clouds." Credit: Cloud Appreciation Society

Now winter solstice is upon us. Today will be both the shortest day and longest night of 2024. In this season of introspection and renewal, may you find strength in stillness, wisdom among the trees and rivers, and the inspiration to transform like the ever-changing skies above.
