That’s what I’m saying about meal prep/planning. Portion the rest and put in the freezer and save it for when you want to be lazy or just don’t have the energy to cook. It’s still not going to sound good after a while and you’ll have to make more food.

Or I have to plan the foods to buy to make simple meals. It is still meal planning to buy staples and have a balanced diet and personal accommodations. Ie food allergies, dietary needs, access to healthy food, time, $. It’s a luxury to be able to account for all this.

When I want to make it easy, I make a bean & cheese quesadilla. I still almost always end up with some waste on trash-day. When I prep breakfast for the week it takes more work planning the ingredients I need to make my morning easier and trade my time. And it is a luxury to have these options.

You have changed the point from personal time & unit value to being how you do things on a personal level. It can be easy, or it can be a larger operation. It changes for every household with different budgets, schedules, # of ppl and where you live and how much time you can commit.

That was literally my point. I’m not complaining about the costs, I’m saying not everyone can make that work everyday and people’s circumstances are different. The OG’s post demeaned the hardwork of a freelancer by saying she didn’t know the value of unit cost. She chose her time to work over cook.

It’s not always about saving money, it’s about saving time. When you work 40ish hours a week, come home, get on more zoom calls, walk the dog, cook and then clean. It. Is. Exhausting. It is not doable everyday. Somedays my time is more valuable than the value of groceries and prepping/cleaning.

The original post was the argument between unit cost of food and time. Making a single burrito is pointless if you have to buy a whole lb of meat, cheese, veggies, etc and are not meal planning later for the unused ingredients.

That one has always baffled me lol

It might be a good solution to you, but not for everyone. My mummy taught me great food planning skills. But shit happens. Sometimes my cabinet is full of ingredients and I want something I don’t have to think about.

Just imagine all of that is ignored because someone wants to be paid for the order and you still end up in that situation after adding that info to your order. You might as well have gone to the damn grocery store. That’s 90+% of my experience trying to order online to “save time”
January 5, 2025 at 12:30 AM
I’m sure that does work for you. But not for every family. There’s also a balance between the time and energy you can put into cooking daily x3. Make enough for left overs to save time later? Will that still sound good or go bad in the fridge?
January 5, 2025 at 12:21 AM
He’s talking about cost per unit. Not everyone has enough freezer space to store cooked food in to keep making more food so you don’t have to eat the same thing on repeat. It’s like if I wanted to get the best $ value I would buy half a cow, but I don’t have the space to store it.

Hours or the next day your food arrives and the shopper has been uncommunicative and most of your food is replaced with stuff you are allergic to. Or was skipped because it’s “out”. You’ve just wasted a minimum of several hours on that. And then you have to file for a refund and add more time.
January 4, 2025 at 11:54 PM
Ma’am, that is not a fix-all option for many people. Busy schedules in households on top of unreliable shoppers makes that not realistic for many. Imagine you spend an hour+ looking for deals online to save some money in the app, then are slapped with fees, tips for shoppers.

Having time to food prep/meal plan and then store your food is all a luxury now.
