Since I seem to be gaining some new followers, I suppose now would be a good time to post a reminder that I recently completed a podcast dissertation about libraries and knowledge control. My focus is mainly on academia but I also bring in the current state of school and public libraries as well.
Okey dokey, it's officially time to move over here because that other site is just picking up speed on it's way down the hill. So, hi! I'm Elizabeth, I'm a PhD candidate in Rhetoric and I'm currently creating Anxiety in the Archives, my podcast dissertation.

I also find it interesting that several academic publishers are straight up lying about the new NIH compliance. T&F is telling me that PMC only accepts open access articles, which is patently false. The truth is that T&F and other pubs want us to believe an exorbitant OA fee is the only option.

I've been working with academic publications and open access for almost 8 years now but until yesterday I was totally unaware that the journal Nature charges $12,690.00 to publish an article as open access. TWELVE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED AND NINETY DOLLARS, Y'ALL.

So, the NIH updated their policy and did away with the 12-mo embargo on Author Accepted Manuscripts in PubMed, which is great. I love that. What i don't love is that the big academic publishers are using this as a way to extort absolutely ludicrous open access fees... (1/7)

It’s been 8 years since I busted any library ghosts but this felt like a good time for a reboot. #halloween2025

On another note, I gave a presentation on copyright and publishing at the Fall ‘25 nursing colloquium today. It went really well! And then I tripped at the corner of the busiest intersection of the school on my way back to the library and busted my face up. So that was awesome.

Well my follower count just went bonkers which I guess means I’ve been added to a new list somewhere? But the joke’s on y’all because I barely post and I don’t auto-follow. It’s quiet as the grave over here. I’m just here to lurk.

I gotta say, it is really satisfying to be the one to shepherd my own dissertation through Vireo and into the TWU repository, which has become such a primary part of of my work life over the last 8 years. It feels like the perfect end to this bonkers PhD adventure: hdl.handle.net/11274/16897

The TikTok algorithm is crazy. You like a couple of videos of jacked, tattooed guys in masks and the next thing you know your FYP is wall-to-wall sexy Ghostface 😳

I just spent the last 2 hours re-reading the pile of short stories I wrote in 2007 when my brain was on the Topamax wavelength and damn, these are really good. Like, they need work and I don’t know if I can still write like that anymore but I feel like I should do something w them. 🤔

Well, it was a helluva thing getting this done, and I had to make some drastic format changes in the process but my dissertation has officially been approved by the grad school, a week before graduation!

One thing that has become very clear about doing a dissertation podcast is that citation styles are going to have to catch up to the format. Otherwise you end up with a really frustrated student who is about to rip out her hair because her EPISODE TRANSCRIPTS aren't conforming to the style guide.

#FairytaleTuesday: The Robber Bridegroom
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted so here’s a reminder: I’ve been going through the Grimm’s 1812 volume of fairytales, one after the other for a few years. I’ll finish eventually, I promise.…

It’s almost like orange cats have been genetically engineered to be the handsomest cats ever. Also, this is Braax. He’s 18 years old, 16.5 pounds, and tall enough that hobbits could ride him into battle. He’s my best boy 💖
