OK coming back to this-- People also prefer to stick where they're comfortable rather than branching out of what they do to improve. I am very guilty of this myself, I hate drawing landscapes and objects, so I avoid it. I tend to see the most style variation from those who have more varied concepts.

(cont) I think we gotta start driving home how important it is to draw nonpopular medias/characters/your own material, and even selling it alongside the popular stuff. I think it would seriously help normalize selling small media and oc workmore and create a more healthy art market.

This is very true. One of the many reasons so many people make a lot of pokemon material, too. It's a double edged sword, though, given if you go out to a small scale artist alley 80-90% of what you'll see is typically pokemon, because it's what everyone else does and what works, reinforcing itself.

I think a part of it that probably causes this is that anthro is sort of it's own concept, so finding the best references to build off of is other anthro material. It's always great to look at real animals, too, but due to the nature of it being a specific fictional concept your best reference-
