I argue that Natale al Campo 119 exemplifies Italy's efforts to forget Fascist colonialism, offering an alternative memory - a false memory - of Italian victimhood and interracial solidarity.

Natale al Campo 119 has a great cast: Vittorio De Sica, Aldo Fabrizi, Massimo Girotti, Peppino De Filippo, and so many more stars of post-war Italian cinema.
But it's an odd film - a mixture of Christmas comedy, variety film, and prisoner-of-war drama.
It's an odd film politically, too.
