I thought at first that Jim seemed to be in gruesome mode this week, as his Song Lyric Sunday invitation is to play a song that mentions death, kill or murder. Keeping it cheerful in the season of goodwill! But his post tells more: tomorrow is the 45th anniversary of John Lennon's murder, so the theme is in tribute to him.

We're beginning to get into the Advent swing, and here are five more songs that I like. I've played four of these before but one is making its debut - the video is newly released so I'm showing that I'm down with the kids and keeping my fingers on the pulse of that pop music thing. Or maybe not... This first one was newly released last year, and I played it then.

Sunday rolls around again, which must mean that it is time for a Song Lyric Sunday piece. This week's invitation from Jim is to play a song that mentions either a hill or a mountain, at the suggestion again of Di, of pensitivity101 blog fame. Jim's post tells more. I'm playing one for each, one of which you may not know but one you probably will if, like me, you were around when it first came out.

Whilst we don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day as a holiday here there are many who live in the UK for whom this is a special occasion. For example, I saw on the tv news yesterday that there are around 70,000 Americans living in the London area, and no doubt there are quite a few from other countries who celebrate, such as Canada.

Having brought a close last week to my three part mini-series of fire songs, and before the start (next Tuesday) of my seasonal sets, I was wondering what I could do for just one week. So I took a look back through my notes and found that I played a set of water songs two years ago, and had some more ready for the theme, so it seemed like a plan to go with that.

Play a song that mentions River/Stream/Creek/Brook is the invitation for this week's Song Lyric Sunday, at the  suggestion of  Di of the pensitivity101 blog. Jim's post, Naturally Flowing Water, tells us more. I'm playing you a couple of tunes for this, both of which take river as their theme. One is a long time favourite, the other a more recent release from what is probably my favourite band, among many!

I occasionally post selections of new music which has crossed my radar, most of which comes from recommendations by the ever-reliable YouTube algorithm. It has been five months since I last did this, and as there have been quite a few recently that I have liked I thought I'd take some of them for a spin. I'm sharing six today, all of which are recent releases from people I have played before - many times, in most cases!

Keeping to my self-appointed rule of not going beyond three posts for a mini-series within Tuesday Tunes this will be my last set of fire songs for now. I've played some favourites over the past two weeks and still have several more up my sleeve, so I'm rounding this off with a six-pack of tunes, as I didn't want to leave any of these out.

For this week's Song Lyric Sunday Jim is inviting us to play a song that was released on an album titled Greatest Hits or Best Of, as he tells us in his post Most Popular Songs. This is very similar to a theme from six months back, when we had 'compilation or greatest hits' but the one I went with back then, by one of my favourite folk bands - Merry Hell - was a compilation with a different title, so I can't cheat and use it again.

Although our Bonfire Night is now behind us - apart from the neighbourhood twat still letting off fireworks late on Sunday night - I have collected many songs with fire in their title and, not wanting to be wasteful, I thought I'd play another set of them this week. For this week on Song Lyric Sunday Jim is inviting us to play a song that mentions jewellery, like a watch, a ring or a necklace. His post Ring On Her Nose tells all. I've decided to take you down the English folk music route for this, with a song that I have known for around fifty years, ever since one of my favourite bands recorded it.

Here in the UK this coming weekend sees our annual Remembrance Sunday, the day on which we remember and thank those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. I have posted for this every year since I started this blog: it is an important occasion for which I always want to mark my respect. In previous years I have told you of local events, of the forebears of my football team who went off to join up for WW1, and have shared poetry like the one above.
