Still really genuinely angry at how much the passkey rollout has fucked up the flows for anyone using a security key.

Fuck forcing people to set pins on hardware tokens. Fuck defaulting to allowing a hardware token to log in without the password. Fuck making every mobile device you own a first […]

Our application is the target of some weird request patterns; the rate of legit requests is of ~5 requests per minute, but since the start of this year we have seen sustained spikes up to 60.000 request per minute.
The application can handle it without […]

Any data that is collected on servers will eventually leak or be abused otherwise.

By design, no one can enumerate #deltachat profiles which are private and not published on any server. Conversely, #chatmail relays do not see or collect private data or metadata […]

Denmark and other EU governments still pursue #chatcontrol.

They still want to permanently legalize client-side scanning but postponed making it mandatory.

They also want to increase age-verification controls which risk to ruin what little is left of privacy […]

The cybersecurity awareness month is over. You may resume using your dog's name as your password. Just make sure to use a different dog for each account and also use a dog manager.

Not taking Venture Capital money means:

- No pressure to maximize monetization of usage (for every million of VC funding you need to find ~100+ Million in value later).

- No prioritization of growing fast with PR campaigns that promise the moon and stumble on […]

You can achieve a similar outcome also with Clipperz, creating two accounts with the same username, and two different passwords.
So you can select which account to use just typing the matching password. https://mstdn.social/@juliewebgirl/115344494868931502

The canceling of ICEBlock is more evidence, were any needed, that the Web is the platform of the future, the only platform without a controlling vendor. Anything controversial should be available through a pure browser interface.

Huh, spam from 1Password offering me “Early access to Comet, the new AI browser from Perplexity”. I’m perplexed all right, about why 1Password, an outfit I mostly like, is doing this. I want a serious relationship with my security-technology providers, not a spammy one that flirts with sketchy […]

What if a state tries to mandate us as #deltachat app devs/distributors to shut down a chat profile?

Nothing. It can't be done. We have no list of chat identities, have no handle or data about them, and don't mediate the message transfer.

However, EU #chatcontrol politicians and Russian […]

You should design your password manager to work also when you don’t have access to any other services, yet.

We have been asking by many users why we do not provide Second Factor Authentication (2FA) for our password manager; as hard as we thought about doing it, the way we treat our users’ data creates some tricky issues we couldn’t find any solid solution for. But it turns out that while not […]

We like to think we have a high quality product, even though it’s definitely not a financial success (and this is quite an understatement 😅)

Almost every meaningful free software and encrypted tool is European-based or heavily leverages European developers. I think that's probably because there's a strong grant ecosystem there, as well as a stronger social safety net for people who want to earn less to do more. I wish we had that here.
