Structural characterization of rock organic carbon by Raman spectroscopy shows the loss of graphitic phases during the PETM in the mid-latitudes. This is interpreted to indicate enhanced rock organic carbon oxidation efficiency - but this is not globally uniform! (2/3)

New paper led by Emily Hollingsworth in Geochemical Perspective Letters. We use Raman spectroscopy to evaluate rock organic carbon oxidation during the Paleocene-Eocene thermal maximum and assess its role as a positive feedback mechanism! (1/3)
