I've seen a lot of comments from people dismissing global warming because January was so cold for them. And yeah, it was cold on the US East Coast, but definitely not everywhere.

NASA has released their January 2025 temperature data. Warmest January on record for the Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere, and of course, globally too. The NH came in at a whopping 3.31°F (1.84°C) warmer than the 1951-1980 average. Data: data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/

Hey Bluesky, I'm Colin! I'm a climate scientist postdoc working at the Northeast Regional Climate Center (www.nrcc.cornell.edu) at Cornell University. I enjoy data visualization and engaging the public on climate science. I also love Star Wars and crocheting.

Since joining Bluesky, I've been overthinking my first post. Finally decided on temperature anomalies as NASA GISTEMP just got updated with November temps. Here are average Fall (SON) temp (°F) anomalies since 1880 across the NH. Graphic inspired by @zacklabe.com's fantastic work.
