I officially *deleted* my Facebook and Twitter accounts today. Not deactivated. Not logged out. Not "I decided to stop posting there." Deleted. It's not even really ideological, though that's part of it. It's mainly because I feel their algorithms are constantly draining my mental battery.

Concentration camp (noun):

"A place where large numbers of people (such as prisoners of war, political prisoners, refugees, or the members of an ethnic or religious minority) are detained or confined under armed guard."

He's flooding the zone with bullshit right now because he thinks the shock and awe thing is a political winner, but that feels like a miscalculation. The American attention span is short. He's jump-starting everyone back into remembering why they got tired of him last time.

@ryanlcooper.com You ended your excellent piece with uncertainty about whether @bsky.app could (or would) take aim at Meta, like they did with X. As part of your reporting, did you ask them if they plan to explore a decentralized Facebook alternative? prospect.org/power/2025-0...

Does the @bsky.app team have a plan to create a Facebook alternative? FB has been fatally degraded by engagement spam + family/acquaintances you don't want updates from clogging your feed. The underlying concept of Facebook could be a real winner if someone took a decentralized crack at it.

I'm building a list of print news I'd subscribe to if I were to "cut the cord" on digital media consumption. I know my list skews lefty, but I'm curious if I'm leaving off any big ones.

1. WSJ or NYT Print edition
2. Atlantic
3. Economist
4. Mother Jones
5. The Nation
6. The New Yorker

"Chopping wood, making handmade pasta, going to the dog park with my canine-obsessed 6-year-old — these are all in the happy but endangered category of things to do that are neither work nor looking at my phone."

Passing Wednesday thought: Facebook encouraged us to have too many mutuals. Their platform is a fantastic social media concept, but only if it were limited to people who are *actually* your friends.

Tough loss. I'm not going to participate in the public what ifs. But I will say I am extremely proud of the work that campaigners across the country did. Time to go back to our #resist roots.

The Harris team is sticking the landing in every facet of the campaign.
Here is the view from the Mall. This is just the overflow crowd for the Harris rally. Looks like numbers are going to exceed all expectations.

Trying out bluesky like many of you. Despite finding some good "starter packs" of journos, etc, I still find that Twitter is more upt-do-date. After the election, BlueSky will be a welcome change of pace (not to mention less toxic). But before then, Twitter still has utility.
