Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant to say "135 million." So the average American will lose... less than half a pound? This makes no sense either way!

What set me off here was this Daily Show clip where the announcer mispronounces "fentanyl" at the end. It's a really common pronunciation, but it doesn't agree with the spelling (or any dictionary) at all.

You can end the word with "ill" or even a short "ull," just please don't end it with "all."

People often pronounce "cardamom" like "cardamon," so often that it's become an accepted variant in the spelling.

Ending "cinnamon" with an M sound is a whole other thing, and yeah, it sounds charmingly silly. You can take it a step farther and say "cimmamom" if you want to sound really daft.

This is the same process that makes people want to rhyme "cardamom" with "cinnamon."

We have a pretty strong tendency to treat words (and phrases, etc.) like templates with variable slots to be filled in, rather than just like sequences of sounds, one after another.
