This week is about information integrity and riding the momentum of the Courts’ climate rulings.
At #COP30, President Lula called for a fight against climate denial and misinformation.
Now it’s time for leaders to:
1️⃣ Act against climate disinformation
3️⃣ Listen to the courts and turn pledges into law

#COP30 is already in full swing: with @ciel.org, the government of Vanuatu, WWF &d other partners, we are kicking off with two panel sessions today.

We'll focus on justice through law, and ensuring that the ICJ decision leads to ambitious domestic climate laws.

People landing in Rio for #COP30 are greeted by TotalEnergies ads. Quite ironic: some of their ads have just been ruled illegal greenwashing in a Court case we supported.
The company called itself a big "player in the energy transition” but last year, about 97% of their production was fossil fuels.

This year's #COP is the first since the International Court of Justice confirmed that govts & corps have legal duties to protect people and the planet from climate harm.

As we say in this article - the law will be the power that forces us in the direction that we need to go. ⬇️

This is why we’re backing the Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change – launched by the Brazilian COP Presidency, the UN & UNESCO last year. 💪

Now more than ever, countries must take action to clean up our information ecosystems, put obligations in place to tackle disinfo & enforce existing laws addressing it.

Climate disinfo has been acknowledged by the IPCC, NATO & the UN Secretary General’s office as a threat to climate progress. 3/4
November 7, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Big polluters & their enablers use this disinfo to distract, delay & derail climate progress as communities worldwide suffer record-breaking fires, floods & storms.

But for the first time ever, information integrity is on the agenda at this year's #COP30. 2/4

5️⃣ ClientEarth is going back to court to make sure authorities are held accountable – and that everybody follows the law.

No company should profit from pollution while claiming it’s clean.

4️⃣ INEOS’ biggest sell for this plant is the number of jobs it’s set to create. But new data suggests the number of jobs is less than the number of deaths the plant could cause. Not a trade-off we’d choose.
November 6, 2025 at 4:22 PM
3️⃣ But the local authorities gave them a permit anyway.

With new court precedents out there, we believe this isn’t legal.

Communities in the US are living the reality of “invisible” pollution from existing fracking: flaring, toxic water, respiratory illness.
November 6, 2025 at 4:22 PM
2️⃣ We’re taking the Flanders authorities, who have final say on the plant, to court (again).

INEOS’s new plastics facility in Antwerp is set to be Europe’s biggest.

Here's the problem: INEOS hasn’t accounted for the impact of extracting, refining and shipping US gas.

PFAS have been linked to all sorts of health-related issues, from cancer to fertility problems.

Unlike the EU, which is at the very least considering a universal ban on PFAS (albeit one that wouldn't come into effect until 2026) the UK has no plan to regulate these toxic substances. 3/3
November 4, 2025 at 1:33 PM
In the last 4 years, 1.7 million tests for individual PFAS chemicals have been carried out.

At least 9,432 of those recorded PFAS levels above what the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) says could constitute a potential danger to human health. 2/3

The ruling also referred to the 3 advisory opinions we've seen from intl Courts recently, suggesting they're starting to align on standards for EIAs.

The door is now open for cases where multiple impacts of ff projects haven't been taken into account by govts - definitely worth celebrating🎉 5/5
