This is Cleyera: Conversations on Shinto, a podcast where two friends and fellow practitioners of Shinto in the Anglosphere, talk about their faith, its cultural, historical, and other contexts, and try to bring knowledge and community to others.
Arguably the most famous prayer uttered to Hachiman-ōkami is that of Nasu no Yoichi at the Battle of Yashima in 1185. Taunted by one of the Heike men on that clan's boats, who waved around a fan with a sun disc on it, Yoichi prayed to Hachiman-sama to help him land the shot. 🧵
