I think you should flip those people off, and buy yourself a scooter

typically this would involve some amount of traditional education, but I do believe in non-traditional paths too. it's just that Wikipedia is not a primary source, etc.! some amount of discipline in your field is needed

While I'm reminiscing, here's the article I was responding to in OP, when this was a Very New Idea www.latimes.com/archives/la-...

It's both heartening to see progress made and depressing that it takes SO long, for such a well-known condition. Now what about all the other lesser-known ones?...

I couldn't find the post but I did remember this badass picture of me with one of the clinical trial pills.

No such luck. It's been a long time, but I remember feeling "evened out." I had experienced every other semi-legit treatment at the time (I was dx in 1998 at 12yo), including opioids.

I still consider it my most important med, although it is not without drawbacks & doesn't work for everyone.

I was in the clinical trials for Lyrica before it was approved for fibromyalgia. I might be able to find the ancient forum thread where I describe the feeling within an hour of taking my first pill. (Later found out I was not in the control group, so it was the real deal.)

You have to keep in mind, in 2005 there were ZERO treatments on the market for fibromyalgia. We had tricyclic antidepressants and ODing on OTC painkillers. Or herbal medicine "cures" that either did nothing or fucked you up worse.

At this (and every) age I was righteously pissed off at people who solve snake oil to people with chronic pain

Forgive my 19-year-old self for imperfect language. 1. Nineteen! 2. I discovered disability justice spaces a couple years later.
