Yael Kedar and I have organized a reading group on #RogerBacon 's Communia mathematica. Next Friday, Aurélien Robert will guide us through the first distinctio of the text. Fear not the #Latin! Fear not the #mathematics! It's about time to take this bull (Bacon's Communia mathematica) by the horns!

Congrats to new PhD Silvia Cerasaro, who last week defended her thesis at the Dept. of Mathematics, Tor Vergata (Rome)! She showed how history of math can support math teaching in primary school. Fibonacci on fractions was her case study. I advised her on the medieval side of the project.

After all, like Federspiel said in one of his articles
« la droite euclidienne est devenue, en tant que droite, un être mathématique au contenu intuitif extrêmement pauvre, pour ne pas dire nul – aussi nul, peut-être, que celui du schmilblic hilbertien ».
