BESSEMER SAINTS

A good time band in a bad time world.
New album -THIS IS BS TOO- voted "Best Local Album of 2024" by Cleveland Scene magazine readers- "Best of CLE" poll.
You don't have to like us, for us to like you.
From Cleveland, OH USA,
Skeets by bassist Shaggo.
Guessing they were doing it for economy, at first; there were still weird left-field choices then that no one ever explained. Like this one, from Billy Thorpe; 'NCX played it almost daily for years. It was never a hit in America; + certainly not in Cleveland.

We have rich people in Cleveland. Always have, from the Hannas + Rockefellers on up. And there's by far the best high-culture offerings here, more than anywhere else between NYC and Chicago.

There's a whole debate about the henka that's mostly pointless posturing. A man who is 0-4, facing a long 11 days getting out of the hole is perfectly entitled to henka an opponent who's known to charge with his head/eyes down. If his opponent doesn't take that into account; that's on him.

Nice win.

Same. I (shag) used to joke about holding a bake sale in front of our local Classic Rock station, WNCX 98.5, to raise funds to buy them a second compilation CD. Because the first 3-4 years of their programming sounded like they were wearing out one.

Which is a fair (sort of) assessment. When the "Classic Rawk" Nostalgia Industrial Complex first got going, ca. 1988-1990; Boston's first album was one of the ones whose hits they spammed on their captured radio stations without letup, often multiple times per day.

Sorry; maybe a lil too much 'inside baseball" there. 🙏

Why be sorry? You're absolutely right.

Most of the "Topic" channels for bands come directly from the distro platforms- CDBaby, Distrokid, etc. It's part of the package they offer with printing your CDs + placing your albums on the DSPs. YT turned off comments on those channels years ago; which ruins engagement -based algo boosting.

Ryuden is a favorite of mine, due to his abilities as a technician; + for his long arcs of matches against others (especially Abi) that nicely illustrate the relative ups+downs of their careers. Sadly, I dont think Tomokaze has much longer before a haircut and business suit are in order.

Haha, yep! They used to be only the first kind; when today's gatekeeping curmudgeons were barely potty-trained. The Elders who brought us up, decades ago, were generous with their finds + their knowledge; + we strive to be the same, in their honor.

Metal guys can be too; you can discover a lot of niche bands by what shirts the band you're seeing is wearing at a show.

Pop is in a much weirder place than it ever was; so many compartments tightly sealed off from each other, + the wider world.
Metal is getting more like that, too; leading to a total lack of modern, broad-appeal metal bands with the juice to headline festivals like legacy acts can.
November 13, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Yeah. Kinda think they would want us to focus on those struggling to get heard today, tho'.
The Nostalgia blanket seems far more suffocating now than it even was when they had to struggle out from under it; + it was really bad then.

Yep, a dismayingly massive proportion of the music industry (press included) remains determined to resist this century at all costs.
November 13, 2025 at 4:07 AM
I was not; but you can surely bet that I will become so. Thank you for this.
November 13, 2025 at 3:40 AM
A lot. So much of the Greatness of those eras is built upon decades of received opinion from the music business' Nostalgia Industrial Complex.
