It is shocking to see Katherine M. Butler of #California Dept. of Toxic Substances Control claim that her Dept's hazardous waste included real input from community members. Community input was largely ignored, which is why communities and public advocates called for the plan to be rejected.

The Board Members of the SWRCB have voted unanimously to NOT put the Kern County Subbasin in Probation, and instead move the Subbasin back under DWR review. We are disappointed by this decision, but we will continue to work to uplift Kern Community voices and uphold the Human Right to Water in CA.

Laurel Firestone, State Water Board Member, during the 9/17/25 Kern Probationary Hearing: "I really encourage the [Kern] Subbasin to look for ways they can help create structures that provide public spaces for people to engage on basin wide issues. Create more mechanisms that allow for that."
