Just 8 days until a government shutdown.

Republicans need to come to the negotiating table ASAP.

13 days until a government shutdown.

Like it or not, the annual appropriations process forces bipartisanship in the Senate.

Republicans need to come to the table and negotiate a funding deal that lawmakers in both parties can live with.

It's 15 days to a government shutdown.

Congress must pass clean funding legislation free from any poison pill policy riders.

The Clean Budget Coalition homepage now features a "slider of riders."

It has examples of some of the absurd and harmful poison pills that House Republicans added to the annual spending bills.

House Republicans have added hundreds of poison pill policy riders to the must-pass annual spending bills.

Lawmakers need to hear from you now.

Tell Congress to remove ALL of the harmful poison pills from any final spending package.

Republicans are NOT trying to responsibly fund the government.

Their partisan CR is a slush fund for Trump and Musk to wield and ignore as they see fit.
March 12, 2025 at 1:27 PM
Today Republicans will try to jam their CR through the House. Their bill is a blank check for Trump and Musk with painful cuts that will raise costs for everyone.

There is an alternative: A short-term patch to avoid a shutdown so Congress can finish work on serious, bipartisan funding bills.

If there's a shutdown at the end of this week, it will be because Republicans walked away from the negotiating table and tried to go it alone.
March 10, 2025 at 3:42 PM
Laws and appropriations passed by Congress are not optional, but Republicans are insisting on treating them that way.

That's why there could be a government shutdown at the end of next week.
March 7, 2025 at 3:15 PM
Trump, Musk, and Vought are risking a government shutdown by treating congressional appropriations as optional.

House Republicans are adding to that risk by insisting on including hundreds of poison pills that have nothing to do with funding our government.
March 6, 2025 at 4:43 PM
Republicans could have finished the spending bills in December, but they deliberately chose not to.

Now they're choosing a shutdown instead of standing up to Trump's rampant lawbreaking.
March 5, 2025 at 2:26 PM
Republicans control the White House and both chambers of Congress.

They walked away from the negotiating table and don't want to have to follow the law.

They packed their draft spending bills with hundreds of awful poison pills.

If there's a government shutdown in 10 days, it's their fault.
March 4, 2025 at 3:02 PM
The countdown to a shutdown has begun.
March 3, 2025 at 3:38 PM
Here's the latest state of play on the stopgap spending bill due by Dec. 20.

We fully agree that lawmakers should reject partisan poison pills.
