CATF experts gave recommendations for EU policymakers with a view to 2040 and beyond, urging a robust target design coupled with a technology-inclusive enabling framework.

In particular, allowing a reliance on international carbon credits for meeting the domestic climate target could put effective decarbonisation in jeopardy at home and abroad, and potentially lead to higher decarbonisation cost overall.

With @EIB committing +50% of its financing to climate and environment, and aiming to mobilise €1 trillion in clean resilient investment this decade, the mandate is there.

For implementation, financing decisions must reflect a technology-open, risk-resilient decarbonisation approach.

CATF has advocated for support to a broader suite of climate solutions throughout the process - including CCS, nuclear, fusion, clean hydrogen and next-generation renewables. Until now, only a small number of projects in these areas have received EIB support.

CATF is working to advance the technologies and policies needed to achieve a zero-emissions, high-energy planet at an affordable cost.

To unlock the role of nuclear energy in Europe’s clean energy transition, CATF called for:

✅ An EU-wide nuclear strategy
✅ Cohesive licensing and financing frameworks.
✅ Market reforms that value reliability and complement renewables
✅ A stronger workforce and supply chain

Stakeholders highlighted key challenges:
