This week I was at @climatecerege.bsky.social to meet colleagues and sample some cores and I stayed to join the women’s demo on March 8th - what a blast!

7. Why is that #important to know? 1) warmer climates will lead to an increase in regional variability design #infrastructure (flood protection). 2) knowing #pacemakers #predicting extreme #floods early-warning systems in #vulnerable regions.

6. These were also found in records of past #Nile levels from ancient Egyptians during the #CommonEra (so-called #Nilometer records) -> stationarity of climatic forcing/#teleconnections under different climates

3. We used a #varved sediment core from offshore the Nile mouth to reconstruct past #Nile floods during the #GreenSahara -> we observe much stronger #floods AND a higher variability of floods @varveswg

2. Wetter intervals of the geological past (e.g., North African Humid Periods or #GreenSahara phases) are useful (partial) #analogues
