My friend Iris has been dealing with cancer. Living in the small remote northern community of Łutsël K’é means she has to fly to Yellowknife and Edmonton for treatment. All this travel and costs take its toll, so please consider donating so Iris can focus her energy instead on healing. Please share!
Donate to Supporting Iris Through Her Journey of Hope and Resilience, organized by Claudia Haas

A must read article! It details so much of what I've been feeling since I was involved in a wildfire evacuation in 2023. Then dealing with trying to keep working in conservation with this feelings of despair hanging over me. We need to keep fighting for change.

Such an uplifting meeting. Was honoured to be asked to attend and you can see the joy in my face when we took this photo.
It was fantastic to see reps from 24 orgs meet to discuss the future of Canada’s Key Biodiversity Areas.
The group discussed how to bring more awareness to these important areas, and ways to strengthen KBAs as a tool to support work by Indigenous communities & rightsholders.
Until next time! 🌎

Interesting #cameratrap 📸 study by Murphy & Luja, finding evidence of bias in density estimates caused by non-circular home-ranges.
Key take-home:
❗Consider the anisotropic detection function if your camera trap array is elongated in one direction.

Jaguar density estimation in Mexico: The conservation importance of considering home range orientation in spatial capture–recapture
Jaguars (Panthera onca) are endangered in Mexico, where suitable habitats have been largely reduced to coastlines, river networks, and mountain ranges that are linearly oriented across space. Linearl...

I live in a fairy forest!
Textbooks claim that the boreal region is species poor. This is FALSE. There is a tremendous amount of cryptic biodiversity in the moss and lichen species that literally blanket the north. We just need to slow down and respect the fairy forests.
