I brought my perfect nibling to the Gotham game today and we had so much fun. My parents and grandfather came too, so we had 4 generations represented with a 93 year age span!

I did a little autumnal painting on my train ride home today.

Today I met up with the NYC Urban Sketchers for a class on perspective and composition taught by an architect. I've been drawing for DECADES and this helped me so so much. #DHmakes

This is why I love having work from days. Being able to spend my morning hanging out in a park is just such a perfect way to start my day. Especially on a Monday! So good for the brain.

Hung out with a hawk this morning. Merlin thinks it's a red tailed hawk, which I do see regularly in this park. But this one is noticeably smaller and hanging out much lower than I've ever seen. Maybe a young one?

Something the #DHmakes folks would appreciate - not only did I mend some jeans with sashiko but over the weekend I bought a sashiko inspired fountain pen!

Hey #DHmakes folks, Tatter is doing a World Embroidery series this fall and it is all on Zoom tatter.org/events/world...

I mean, just look at this Good Tree!

It feels weird to not be in NYC during/around the election, but I'm not regretting these views.

I made a zine of illustrated landscapes maybe...10 years ago? 2015 or 2016? And this email just found its way to my inbox and I'm very emotional.

I started a new sticker idea during the #DHmakes session today. Still a lot of work to do, but I'm liking where it's going.

Painting people is hard, this is why I usually do plants/buildings.

Cuomo's PAC says they never sent the mailer where they darkened/lengthened @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's beard, but this was in my mailbox today and while I can't find the original photo it seems darker to me.

That may not have been the result we wanted but I saw children giving $$ to drag queens and yell at refs (aka soccer cops) so I feel like the correct pride lessons were passed along.

Also @cloud9goth.bsky.social with the amazing pride tifo as always.

Small delight on my walk to the train - I found half of a bird's egg! I think it's a cardinal egg?

Got a bunch of starts for the vegetable plot. I wanted to grow things from seed, but some of that wasn't working out and I decided I don't have to make this harder for myself

Big nature journaling day - I also caught up in my birding journal. Do I have too many journals? Probably...
May 11, 2025 at 8:12 PM
Spent a lovely morning working on my vegetable plot in the community garden
May 11, 2025 at 5:25 PM
Was I painting during this? Yes. But it is so nice to craft with other folks around
May 1, 2025 at 8:11 PM
My birding journal is going strong! A hobby isn't a real hobby until it has a dedicated notebook, right?

I need to get better at painting iridescence, but there is only one way to improve! Paint more birbs.

On my way to the train I saw an egret! First time this little stretch of the Bronx river has had anything other than Canada geese (that I could see).

I like to keep the Merlin sound ID in while I'm walking to campus. I had a delightful mockingbird keep me company for a long stretch! Not sure I heard the waxwing myself, but did see a few others that didn't get picked up. Canadian geese, a duck, and two downy woodpeckers.

In case you were worried the rest of the day was easy: I spent way too long debugging code and it turned out to just be an uncapitalized B. And then I opened my paint palette that I refilled last night for a lunchtime sketch and was greeted with this. (Guess it needed more time to set)
April 17, 2025 at 8:14 PM
Well. I spilled my tea on my way to work. I hope this isn't an omen for today.
