As an antipodean I woke up and saw his Last Post and responded in what I considered to be a flippant manner. If there was a serious social issue involved I was ignorant of the details. It has never occurred to me to tell Americans what to call themselves. Not even once. Anyway apologies all around!

I feel like I might have the wrong end of the stick because I've never had an interaction like this on bluesky. Wasn't the discussion about the use of the word "USian"? Consider me deeply confused. I am definitely not here to offend anybody.

It's a pretty big big assumption that I am doing it to annoy somebody. Or is your point that since Kevin has decreed that the use of the expression is inappropriate the issue is finished because he's the word police? It just seems weird that other people want to control how people use words.

Great point! Truth is I experienced no doubt whatsoever because I had simply not considered gender. For whatever reason or more precisely for no reason I assumed the poster was a man. I was simply replying to some text. My apologies Iris!

I would contend that trump's electoral failures were more tied to what an absolutely terrible president he was and what a dysfunctional government he led. His impeachments both failed and both provided political distraction which benefited trump more than anyone else.

The problem with that approach is that every failed impeachment is a propaganda victory for trump. There may come a time where impeachment could be successful but that time has not come yet. Trump's hold on the party is still too tight.
