I want to see new histories of the state that challenge the paradigms & presumptions we see failing all around us. Only then can we break this cycle of lawlessness & plunder—by understanding the ways this has been institutionalized—& begin to build a livable world for ourselves & one another.

There is some very good work that does this—esp histories of incarceration, capitalism, & white supremacy—but it remains relatively siloed. That, too, is an ideological response to "the unthinkable," relegating pervasive abuse to particular geographies, periods, & populations.

It is profoundly unserious to have the same dynamic so consistently threaten, destabilize, & even topple regimes of rights & representation w/o more carefully considering whether the design of the state & its hegemonic liberalism creates these outcomes.
