A friend of mine asked me to share this. If you’re in the DC area and looking for something to do in the afternoon, be sure to check out this free screening of The Memory of Darkness, Light, and Ice about the melting of the ice sheet over Greenland and what that means for us. The screening is at 4pm

Sitting in the mall waiting for my husband to finish shopping, so here’s a quick edit of a photo from our recent trip to #Monaghan.

A cold overcast day in Clones (pronounced like clone-ess), Ireland. The image shows an old cemetery with gravestones that are either from the 11th century mixed in with modern ones. A small gravel path in the middle leads up to a round tower - for those unfamiliar with them they look like smokestacks. Some buildings dot the border of the cemetery that is enclosed by an old stone wall.

Getting ready for Christmas!

After making some asteroid tea, this small vial of black stuff is left over. Teams analyzing a small sample of Bennu pulverized the rock and steep it so they can see what it’s made of! I was lucky to visit the lab and learn about it on a tour ✨☄️ 🔭
A glass case is centered in the photo. On the other side is a shallow depth of field but it is still noticeable that there is a lab behind it with blue cabinets and a black top like a school’s science lab. Inside the case is a small glass vial with what looks like dust or dirt but it is very black. Like Black 2.0 that you buy to paint stuff, or the blackest black that Anish Kapoor owns the rights to. Anyway, that dust is the pulverized remnants of the asteroid Bennu after it’s been steeped in water like tea to analyze what the asteroid is made out of.

Visited the observation overlook at Goddard to check in on Nancy. She’s starting to look more like herself as the next space telescope ☄️🛰️🔭 #RomanSpaceTelescope #space
Looking through the observation window into a giant clean room. Inside a banner reads Goddard Space Flight Center with the NASA meatball. On the floor level are pieces of the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope that are being built and assembled though work is paused because it’s lunch time. In the center of the photo is the telescope mirror that light from stars and galaxies will enter and refract into the sensor.

Fun relaxed day checking out some local parks.
A long dead tree lays on the shore going into water. There are piles of rocks not too far from the shore to protect the shoreline. Beyond those is the Chesapeake Bay with the Eastern Shore of Maryland just on the horizon. There are no clouds in the sunny afternoon sky. Rocks lay on the shore covered by shade as the sun is starting the set. The Chesapeake Bay has small waves and cargo ships are in the distance. On the left of the image is a shoreline of Eastport with houses and trees dotting long it. Far on the horizon is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge spanning across the water. There are no clouds in the late winter sky.
