Turns out I’d developed a nasty chest infection and I pretty much missed the entire festive season. And more or less ruined my mum’s celebrations too as she lived in a 1 bedroom flat at the time.

Mid-90s when I was a student. I’d been studying for exams and working 20+hours a week at M&S in the run up to Christmas. I was so run down by Christmas Day that when I got to my mum’s, I collapsed in a coughing fit that made me sick. She put me to bed and I barely moved for a week.

Yep - my grandpa carved turnips for lanterns at Halloween well into the 1980s
