Systems thinkers know that "you can't just do one thing."

The abatement cost of swapping gasoline for an EV is impacted by other mitigation measures like solar adoption.

In our new pub, an energy systems model captured such interactive effects to estimate marginal CO2 abatement cost in the US.

This just out today @pnas.org: our read of the evidence suggests a ~$280/tCO₂ social cost, over $2.5 per gallon at the pump.

(That's up from the Biden administration's ~$200/tCO₂.)

Excited to announce a new @pnas.org publication on the Social Cost of Carbon. We integrate evidence from the literature and expert survey to provide an SCC distribution inclusive of both parametric and structural uncertainties. Our mean 2020 value is $283 per ton CO2

Synthesis of evidence yields high social cost of carbon due to structural model variation and uncertainties | PNAS
Estimating the cost to society from a ton of CO2—termed the social cost of carbon (SCC)—requires connecting a model of the climate system with a re...

I had a great time working on this paper w/ whip smart colleagues from NC State and CMU. Check out Jeremiah's thread below:
There is a wide array of future technology choices that allow us to achieve a net-zero energy system at *near* optimal cost.

Diverse decarbonization pathways under near cost-optimal futures
Nature Communications - This study identifies near cost-optimal paths to net-zero emissions by 2050 in the U.S. It identifies four classes: essential, reduced, emerging, and rarely used, offering...
