My favorite birb boy. He had an aggressive molt last year, and I spoiled him and his mate with peanuts in shell. He's gorgeous this year, but I kinda miss my tattered king.
A mated pair of cardinals on a weathered wooden beam. The female is on the left, crouched a bit in front of the male on the right. He is nearly bald, just a few bits of red fluff against his grey-black skin. His neck and the neck-end of his body show a lot of grey from missing feathers. I'd been worried that he had mites, but it turned out to be an enthusiastic molt. He was king of the yard as a muppet, and he was a glorious king again by the end of summer 2024.

No pet photos at hand, but I do have rescued opossums from 2021. So soft. So sweet.

The rehab person said, "She's a terrible mother, but that's why she has 13 nipples."
