Yesterday at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow we unveiled the portrait of our first female Fellow, Jamini Sen. In 1912, Jamini Sen became the first female surgeon to be admitted to our College, after women were allowed to sit the examinations necessary for fellowship in 1911.

I've also been lucky enough to visit Florence and Pisa this summer. Long awaited trip. Wanted to go for over 30 years. It was a bit overwhelming, mainly due to the heat. Nearly 40 degrees and 4 quick days. I'm treating it as a recce for the next visit, hopefully won't have to wait another 30 years!
