I think most of the city was buried but there must have been ‘pockets’ that didn’t get completely covered. My guess is that these were on the edge/outside of where the pyroclastic flows traveled.

Perhaps, and nobody can dispute that planning for peace is good, but it still doesn’t feel like an appropriate thing to do at anybody’s funeral, let alone the pope’s, or in front of the world’s cameras.
