A few years ago I stumbled into the field of robotics, working as public engagement manager for the UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems network. As part of that, I started a podcast called Robot Talk (@robottalkpod.bsky.social), which I've now been hosting & producing for over 4 years.

I thought I should introduce myself. I'm a freelance science writer & communicator with a PhD in ant behaviour. I mainly write about ecology, biodiversity & climate for a variety of publications including @mongabay.bsky.social & BBC Science Focus.

Hey #plantsky! This cactus has got a bit out of hand. What can I do?

I’m thinking of cutting off the most disobedient column and replanting it. I know I need to let the cutting callus - anything else I should know? Will the main plant likely be ok?

Brave Green World is three years old today! 🎉

Released for #EarthDay 2021, much of what we discuss in the book is as relevant today as it was then.

I'm still optimistic that we can create a more sustainable society based on #CircularEconomy principles. 🧪🌍

It was an absolute joy to work on this wonderful book, 'Habitats' by DK, and I'm thrilled to discover that Chris Packham has written the foreword.

I thoroughly recommend this beautifully illustrated ecological guidebook - a great gift this Xmas!

Are you someone who worked or trained as an evolutionary biologist or a closely related field, and has a career off the standard academic track (which we define here as PhD -> postdoc -> independent PI)? Would you like to help others explore options for non-academic careers? If so, we would value 10-20 minutes of your time, and answers to our survey questions about your career path. Our aim is to inform those exploring alternatives to academia, and to help equip supervisors/mentors to advise them. Responses will be anonymous. The complete survey data will be held at the University of Liverpool for five years after the close of this survey, and then destroyed. The responses will be analysed by the research team, and the data presented in a summarised form in an open access paper in an evolutionary biology journal and conference presentations. Care will be taken to remove any sensitive or identifying information before publication.
