Most of the bars are very small; the previous record of 26,000 hectares in 2000 is highlighted, as is the 25,000 hectares burned in 2022. Both of these are dwarfed by March 2025, when more than 100,000 hectares are reported to have burned. The bottom panel shows 5-day averaged values of the hot-dry-windy index, which characterises fire-conducive conditions. 1990-2020 are shown in light orange and 2025 is overlaid. A big spike in the values occurs during the time of the fires.
