That’s a really good way of putting it. What interests me is how quiet that snowballing was nothing dramatic for years, just small compromises people were told not to worry about. By the time it breaks, no one can point to a single moment anymore. I think that’s why it feels so unresolved.

I think you’re right about the timeline. For me the break starts with Iraq that was the moment hope turned into managed consent. What I still can’t work out is whether Labour ever really faced what that did to public trust, or just tried to out-message it.

Genuinely curious do you really think public trust collapsed overnight, or is this just a convenient way to avoid talking about the last decade?
