The cat dragging all the shopping bags in the kitchen to make a nest for herself gave me a moment of panic, thinking, "She's not going to have kittens, is she?" until I remembered she hasn't had any gentlemen callers, and she's been spaded, so I think we're okay.

My favorite parts of picking up used books is finding a mysterious bonus left behind by the previous owner, such as this over-exposed Polaroid of what appears to be a gentleman in a parka, and not, I hope, the start of some ghostly ring that will now haunt me.

Salem Chapel BME Church here in St. Catharines, where Harriet Tubman worshiped during the time she lived in the city. I had the pleasure of attended a fascinating tour and talk by Rochelle Bush about Harriet Tubman, and St. Catharines' role as the final stop on the Underground Railroad.

Went to the re-release matinee of THE PHANTOM MENACE, which I last saw in the year 2000. Hearing a dozen young children being vocal about their excitement and joy watching him made me learn to at least respect if not appreciate the character.

I found this photo of a kitten from the 1960s over 30 years ago. The note on the back reads: "Here I am on the TV which I often watch. I'll be glad when my powders come, as I'm in another spasm of worms. But I'm not so sick. I can play."

Just finished TEAR by Erica McKeen. Impossible not to think of Frankenstein. Not the kind of book you'd say you "enjoyed" reading, but got a lot out of its heartbreak and menace.

March 21st 1985: FRIDAY THE 13th PART V is refused by Ontario Censorship Board, until Paramount recuts violent scenes. I wish I could find out if they had to strike all new prints just for Ontario, or were the revisions minor enough that they could be manually edited out of existing prints.

It's February 15th 1983, and not only is the Can-View Drive-In open, but they're showing STAR WARS and EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. My parents took me to this, but I was 4, and promptly fell asleep.

Not sure why the Bay is using headless child ghost dolls to advertise winter coats so close to Christmas, but I guess they know what they're doing.

My Grandmother, Leokadia, (2nd from the left) a couple years or so after being liberated from a Siberian prison camp. Despite all the unpleasantness in her life, the main thing I remember about her is how great and she laughed when something struck her as funny.

Took a trip into Hamilton tonight to see a collection of Joe Ollmann's original comic art at You And Me Gallery. I was delighted by both the precision of the black-&-white pages and the gorgeous colouring on others. Worth taking the time to check out this rich collection.

Although I miss the summer, I am consoled by the falling leaves, as clearing a yard gives me a deep sense of relaxation and satisfaction. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about snow removal.
