Unfortunate turn of events in the lab led to opportunity for some great photos. These are fatmucket glochidia (native mussel larvae) infested in the gills of a largemouth bass. The rest of their friends are alive and well. Hopefully we'll have a nice crop of juvenile mussels soon!

Need help IDing this critter. Sample is from our tanks holding unionid mussels that were collected in a local creek (western New York state). Photo is through an inverted compound scope. Reminiscent of copepods, but way too small and lacking the swimming legs, etc.
