But we still don't know how many were killed while defending the UK, most likely due to a lack of research and awareness. Hopefully that will change in the future.

As always, this is just one example of enemy action leading to the death of a member of the Regular Army that comprised Home Forces on active service.

The explosion mortally wounded Lieutenant T. B. Scott and injured one Other Rank. Lieutenant Scott was rushed to hospital by ambulance, but died at Scarborough Hospital at 2am the following morning.

The bomber released four bombs, one of which struck a small house which was being used as a billet by soldiers of the 1st Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment; a Regular Army Battalion who were defending that section of coast at the time.

Here's another example from my research on the defence of East Yorkshire that shows that the solders of the Home Forces were very much on the front line and encountered enemy action, which ultimately led to casualties. On the 8th of July 1940, an enemy bomber appeared over Reighton Gap, nr Filey.

We still don't know how many Field Force soldiers were killed while on duty in the UK.
