Brooklyn-based pest. Longtime volunteer with Sister District, a direct action organization working to create and maintain progressive majorities in state legislative houses. No automatic followbacks.
It’s the collateral damage, tho. I volunteer for Democrats, but my adult children won’t. They don’t see themselves in the Democratic party. They don’t join me for phonebanks or canvassing. What happened yesterday demoralizes ME, too, and it disgusts them.

When I attended UT Austin in the 1980s, tuition was $4 a credit hour. No typo. With fees, my annual tuition was around $350. That was regular college, with liberal arts degrees, but with limited housing and food plans. We could do it, because we used to do it.

Also: no housing or food plans.

My friends in Holland pay that. They are expected to finish their degrees in three years. No farting around with distribution requirements. Tests are required to get into certain hot majors, and then you have to remain in good standing or you take mandatory time off.

Yesterday was a gorgeous day to be out, especially in our fantastic parks. Prospect Park here.

I don’t own but I frequently rent cars. There’s a little arrow on the speedometer that tells you what side the gas tank is on. Hope that helpe.

You could have just informed her without being nasty, as the other poster did. She was glad for the info. But now you’re muted. Bye.

My guess is he’s proposing what people used to do in the 1970s, before HMOs: catastrophic plans + a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account. It’s a good deal for people who have a lot of assets they would like protected in a health crisis. Unworkable for anyone else.

Yes, young white men would rather go without income and commit psychological (and physical) suicide than take the social status hit of a low-status, female-coded job. That’s wild.

It’s the latter part that intrigues me. My parents live in a largely nonwhite town. About 1/3 of their caregivers have been young Black men. My dad prefers a male caregiver, so that’s part of it, but finding young (Black) men to do that work has not been that difficult. Anecdata, for sure!

I wonder: RW tells young white men they deserve well-compensated jobs with societal respect but is limiting those jobs. RW tells young white women they deserve care and protection from white men but not jobs. Young white women don’t suffer same social damage from taking low-status jobs.
