No, he’s a good dog, they gave him the 2nd best behavior rating. In fact when he first came in they reported they introduced him to another dog & he had wagging tail & loose body. Over time in an over crowded shelter dogs can become reactive to each other. He hasn’t bit a dog or person

So true. It’s the ones that don’t have those other responsibilities that can be frustrating.

I tend to be pretty patient but this one is testing me.

It’s not too difficult, many cities and counties have done it. People, advocacy groups in NYC have been fighting hard for well over a decade. We have a new Mayor so the effort is going to begin again. It never stopped, but new hope.

They do; I’ve learned from a lifetime of books & friends; still didn’t prepare me for being plunged into it.

Sometimes have to remind myself not to judge others whose response is different - less ardent? - than mine. That’s hard but also I think necessary.

I do too, but note he’s on their At Risk of being killed list. I don’t mean to depress u, but I think it’s important people are aware that our shelter kills so many healthy dogs, & also dogs that with proper medical care would live. Instead of giving care, they just kill them. @nyshelterreform

I’ve always had mad respect for M. Gessen. I’ve been thinking abt this Q for some time now in part because I’ve had the good fortune to know people who’ve confronted it elsewhere & also learn from respected voices like Gessen & @ecetemelkuran.bsky.social Reccomend reading her book #HowToLoseACountry

He is; I’m praying they don’t kill him. They’ve been killing lots of puppies lately; healthy, adoptable puppies.
