If a company states "we're doing these layoffs because of efficiencies gained by AI" they are lying. A huge layoff looks bad to investors because it's not infinite growth and the people in charge of hiring save face by not making a headcount mistake on the order of the size of a medium sized town

The problem with comparing the AI bubble to the dot com bubble is that it legitimizes this AI craze. The between them is that the internet was able to create value, AI cannot.

btw Firefox added a bunch of AI/ML features, and you can disable them in about:config with browser. I noticed a significant performance increase on my work laptop
From what I can tell, the only purpose is to use an LLM to name your tab groups
