No, I don't think that they will. Even if AI will advance beyond only being able to write articles from clean, consistent data, I think that society will still value uniquely human opinions in the media. #J201 #315

Yes, I get a lot of targeted ads. The most targeted ads that I get (that I'm aware of) are on Instagram. I actually really appreciate the ads because they're specifically tailored to my style and I sometimes end up buying the products. #J201 #315

Honestly, I don't really think so. People are already so skeptical of the news media and the public's overall trust in news is declining -- therefore, I think people already assume that the news is trying to persuade them (like with the Hostile Media Effect!) #J201 #315

I somewhat agree. I think likability is most persuasive when it draws similarities between the brand and consumer. However, I think it's less persuasive in formats like SuperBowl commercials with celebrity endorsements -- many times, I don't even remember what the commercial was for. #J201 #315

I think that it increases viewers' desire to know more -- when we hold a positive attitude towards something, we are more likely to be persuaded by it. Therefore, we are more susceptible to advertising messages, such as "you should buy Budweiser because we are similar." #J201 #315

I think that, as people grow increasingly skeptical of news media, journalists likely utilize the appeal to authority principle of persuasion the most, bringing in a credible third party that viewers trust to back up and strengthen their argument. #J201 #315

This is why observing correction is so important on social media! People with the "news will find me" mindset often find their news on social media, and observing correction on social media (rather than be directly corrected) makes these people more open-minded to accepting fact-checks. #J201 #315

I think that the "Spiral of Silence" has always occurred. But, it's getting more intense. Our generation has engaged with social media for the majority of our lives, and social media is all about opinions -- likes, dislikes & other UGC. Mass opinion is easily accessible to us, anytime. #J201 #315

I don't think that we should fully eliminate bias -- it can be essential for civil discourse, forming opinions and enhancing citizenship/self-government. BUT, journalists should still strive to present their information with active objectivity to keep people informed, not polarized. #J201 #315

Usually, I would side with the critics in saying that they're limiting free speech. However, at the same time, I believe that Meta should re-implement their fact-checkers to prevent the spread of misinformation (especially in our current political environment!) #J201 #315

Yes, I do. I thought it was interesting in class when we discussed the fact that humans are more drawn to the "bad" than the "good." We also talked about how this mindset is more common in how conservatives consume media than how liberals consume media. #J201 #315

I think that American culture promotes the idea that fulfillment in our jobs will bring the most satisfaction/happiness. This reminds me of the motto of Silicon Valley: "move fast." In my opinion, this mindset is destructive and distracts from other factors that bring more fulfillment. #J201 #315

On one hand, less media coverage means less exposure to journalistic framing, which could mean less extreme political opinions. On the other hand, if someone isn't educated on current events, they could be more vulnerable to conspiracy theories, which could intensifies their opinions. #J201 #315

This is super interesting -- this reminds me of when a ton of people on the physician track changed their career paths during COVID-19. The constant reporting surrounding doctors/hospitals during this time affected people's choices, like in this example. #J201 #315

The type of media that I consume the most is TikTok/Instagram. Although I don't feel as though these platforms make me more suspicious of the "real" world, they do make me believe that it's easy to acquire luxury items -- another result of high TV consumption that we talked about today. #J201 #315

I agree -- especially for Generation Alpha, a generation of children who are just joining TikTok and may not feel as skeptical towards advertisements as other older generations do. It will be interesting to see how this will impact Generation Alpha's consumerism patterns. #J201 #315
