Natural hazards modeller. Views my own.
Thanks Ben. The watershed moment for me was when its owner did a Nazi salute live on TV. TBH I'm surprised this wasn't extreme enough to get any kind of reaction from our government.

I don't understand this "extortion" take. It's a v bad deal for Ukraine (& Europe) for sure, & I'm sure your criticisms of it are fair, but isn't USA within its legitimate right to withdraw support, without being labelled as extorters? They've been supplying weapons & intel for yrs.

To be fair, having widespread public support for a national refugee policy seems like a prerequisite to its success. So politics & policy success are linked in this case.

To be quite honest, I don't think this will poll that badly with most labour voters living in the UK in 2025.
Their problem with voters (Labour or other) is more one of credibility.

Tbh I don't see how a land transaction tax (inc primary homes) can ever not discourage people from moving?

& in general taxing people based on a market-driven valuation of their primary residence is a bonkers idea however you look at it, imho. This forces gentrification and pushes people to move.

This is horrifying language to see in a national mainstream newspaper. If even well-qualified, white-collar civil servants are now just part of the "horde", god help everyone else

So the rubbish gets sucked away by tubes? How far away does it travel? Does it end up in large underground bins, or they take it all the way to processing sites?
Pretty cool either way, though I wonder about maintenance cost.

A London tax is probably a more descriptive term than Mansion tax, given what's described in the article

I use insta, still have an X account but don't open it much & use this app a lot more. But I'm sure numbers don't lie, so it sounds like I'm an outlier in this.
