I think the biggest “what if” is Kakko & if he spent a season more or less in the AHL developing (or alternatively the rangers were really bad his first year and he plays top line + pp minutes). Miller was super raw and talented and came a long at Wisconsin, I don’t think his arc is much different

If they trade him and unless he gives a list of multiple suitors (I’m doubtful) I think we all need to be prepared for an underwhelming return.

That’s fair. I won’t suggest to know what is best for the development of young players, but it feels like they’re so quick to hype a prospect and bring them up just to give them very short leashes in top 6 or top D pair roles before they relegate them down the lineup which does not seem ideal.

Everything said here is very reasonable but I just don’t think the org ever maintains a serious long term vision. If not in playoff contention they will they trade pending UFAs but if you give them cap space and draft picks they will overpay for mediocrity in FA and rush prospects all over again.

Well the guy coaching team probably isn’t super familiar with the players and head coaching the rangers to losses like this, oh wait…..

4th game in 6 days, not a complete excuse but cautiously optimistic they can get back to better 5 on 5 play given what we saw to start to the year.

His agent is the same as Tage Thompson’s 👀

Not even sure he’s the right fit but #3 is potentially finding a partner that works with Fox and he is happy with which unlocks the best version of him. For whatever reason that was never going to be K’Andre Miller despite all of us that would have liked them to try it more over the past few years

Yes but 2026 1st needs to be top 3 or 5 protected. If not slides to 2027.

I think they may need to add something else, Othmann or Sykora? More interesting if they’re willing to make a trade ahead of the draft. I don’t think Chicago would trade the pick on the floor if Misa was there at 3. Haggens as a small-ish center goes against Drury’s type, not sure she’s the target

Do you think Schneider + something else (picks / B or C level prospects) is enough to get him? I would think getting a right handed cost controlled D in return would be ideal for Buffalo.

Panarin also probably wants an extension this summer. idk if you could get significant assets back for him but if the rangers don’t plan to resign him, he and his agent would be enticed to find a team this summer that will and wave his NMC.

Fair enough, regardless of the year and spot I think all of us are prepared for the player drafted this year or next to torment us for the next decade!
May 5, 2025 at 11:53 PM
I don’t think any org, let alone the rangers, could really successfully evaluate talent 1+ years out with definitive success for comparative purposes but I guess the argument would be if you think the 2026 draft is deeper and that picks 12-15 this year are the same as picks 25-30 next year.

Panarin (50% retained) + 2026 1st to Dallas for Bishell and Stankoven

PK Subban for Shea Weber but like if both players were playing in todays nhl.
