Ok nevermind I just read the story in full. Guess I should have to begin with. You DO have to have REAL ID (which a passport is as well), but if you don’t, like if your drivers license hasn’t renewed in a while, you can pay $18 for alternate verification instead of just getting denied entry.

Nope, I just checked to make sure. Not every drivers license is compliant (but all newly issued licenses in all 50 states are now), but all passports are. It’s been a pretty convoluted rollout to be sure.
