Lettuce romaine friends forever.
visibility and sea state were benign and the AIS track shows 14-16kts with no course correction at all - they would have had 10-15 mins to notice this - and it was a busy shipping lane coming up to the mouth of the river. something certainly seems strange though.

Ships are not planes, even if auto-helm is used to keep a course the captain and officer-of-the-watch maintain full command over the vessel and navigating decisions. this appears to be a failure to keep watch
