This week, Civitech CEO, Jeremy Smith, is taking on another big question: why don’t people vote consistently? Spoiler alert: it’s not because people don’t care.

Kristi Noem just had US Senator Alex Padilla forcibly removed from a press conference while calling the Democratic leadership of LA “burdensome.”

Seems to us like we could use even more “burdensome” leaders in office.

Voting, especially in local and state elections, is more important than ever.

Trump may not have won the presidency without Elon, but Democrats can win local and state seats this year with targeted voter registration and engagement initiatives.

Watching this interview on ABC and feeling furious? Yeah, we know. The lies, gaslighting, attacks on anyone who disagrees are exhausting. Now is the time to fight back by registering voters. If we want to reclaim our country, we need to start expanding the electorate now.

After 100 days of constant attacks on human rights, a tanking economy, and the dismantling of our institutions, this administration is more destructive to democracy than his first.

After you’ve taken a breath, crack your knuckles and get ready for the next 1,360 days of fighting.

If you’re not in a state with an upcoming election, vote with your wallet.

There are plenty of ongoing boycotts of MAGA-aligned businesses. If you’re able, focus on supporting small businesses and those that acknowledge human rights.

It may sound silly, but humor is an age-old method of defiance and protest.

While laughing at the current administration doesn’t dethrone them, it does take away some of their legitimacy and power. Keep watching political comedy, sharing memes, and making jokes.

Most of us have family that are still stuck on the Trump train.

While protecting yourself, keep having the tough conversations about how the current administration’s actions are affecting you AND them.

Small businesses get hit the hardest during economic downturns.

As the current administration tanks the economy and the USD$ reaches a 3-year low, shop at small businesses when you’re able.

Authoritarian regimes thrive on fear. In times like these, hope and joy are acts of protest.

Whether you’re just keeping up with your regular routine or you’ve made big moves in your life today, celebrate the “little” wins that keep you going.

Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans are not the first to claim unmitigated power, and likely will not be the last.

Past generations found ways to defy tyrannical leaders and preserve their freedoms. Learn from their stories and keep working to secure your rights.

Use secure, encrypted communication when organizing.

As this administration’s rhetoric flares and they continue discussing the deportation of US citizens, keep yourself covered by communicating safely (and consider using more secure channels than a Signal chat)

The massive waves of unconstitutional acts are designed to desensitize the population and make it easier to commit more.

Don’t get desensitized, don’t get complacent, and remember that this is NOT normal.

Nationwide protests confronting the actions of the current administration are planned for this Saturday, April 19th.

In the past week, the sitting US president has made comments discussing deportations of US citizens and blatantly ignored the Supreme Court’s orders to retrieve Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

In heavy times, small acts of connection matter. Spread joy and build community. Write a thank-you note, drop off snacks at a local org, restock a food pantry, or leave kind notes around your neighborhood. Small acts of care create strength and connection. 💙

While Republicans hide from their constituents, Democrats are stepping up, holding town halls in red states where GOP leaders refuse to face the public.

Democrats will be hosting these town halls during the April recess. Show up. Attend these town halls. Fill the room with support.

Trump crashed the stock market, then limited tariffs just enough to spark a rebound. Why? So he and his billionaire friends could buy the dip and cash in on the chaos.

Let them know we see it. Talk about it. Post about it. Make noise.

Big banks and investment firms are funding the very politicians and corporations working against our rights and democracy.

Research where your bank or credit card company invests and start shifting your money to a credit union or ethical bank. Even small moves send a big message.

If you didn’t get your “cute winter boots” back in January, now is the time. Stock up on essentials, save money, and get prepared for whatever comes next.

Start small. Grab a little extra rice, beans, water, and basics every time you shop. Prep isn’t panic, it’s power. 💪

It was so exciting to see the turnout for the "Hands Off!" protests! The protests have shown the power of collective action against policies threatening our democracy. To ensure this movement leads to real change, we must continue our efforts beyond the streets.
